A national telemedicine network for retinopathy of prematurity screening
2018, Journal of AAPOSCitation Excerpt :Screening began 4 weeks after delivery or when the premature infant reached a gestational age of 31 weeks. Subsequent examinations were scheduled according to ROP screening guidelines.3,12,13 Examinations continued until both eyes reached full retinal vascularization or zone III immature vascularization at gestational age of ≥37 weeks or until ROP treatment was required.
The Challenge of Screening for Retinopathy of Prematurity
2013, Clinics in PerinatologyCitation Excerpt :A recent multicentered, randomized clinical trial (ETROP)28 studying earlier laser treatment of severe ROP emphasized the need for more frequent examinations to result in accurate and timely diagnosis of treatable disease. However, this has added significantly to the overall burden of ROP evaluations.27,29 An audit in the United Kingdom in 1997/1998 reported that 55 ROP examinations by an ophthalmologist occurred for every infant who required laser treatment.30
