  • Comparison of training in neonatal resuscitation using self inflating bag and T-piece resuscitator

2015, Medical Journal Armed Forces India
    Citation Excerpt :

The most common device used to deliver this is the self-inflating resuscitation bag with mask (BM). Devised in 1954, this has withstood the test of time.2 Its appeal lies in its ability to use room air for self filling and the minimal skills required for assembly and use.

  • Neonatal resuscitation in low-resource settings: What, who, and how to overcome challenges to scale up?

2009, International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics
    Citation Excerpt :

Development of safe, inexpensive, and easily-cleaned suction devices is required. The key equipment for neonatal resuscitation is a self-inflating bag-and-mask, first invented by Ruben in 1954 using bicycle parts [31]. Several studies have shown that for the majority of babies who do not breathe at birth, initial ventilation with a self-inflating bag-and-mask is adequate, and there is little difference in the time to first breath whether using ventilation by bag-and-mask or endotracheal intubation by an experienced provider [1,32].
