The Continuing Plague of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase Producing Enterbacterales Infections: An Update
2020, Infectious Disease Clinics of North AmericaCarbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae dispersal from sinks is linked to drain position and drainage rates in a laboratory model system
2019, Journal of Hospital InfectionThe Continuing Plague of Extended-spectrum β-lactamase–producing Enterobacteriaceae Infections
2016, Infectious Disease Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :These patients were heavily exposed to broad spectrum antibiotics and had multiple invasive devices and exposure to instrumentation.51,52 After establishing endemicity in certain facilities, reports of nosocomial outbreaks of Enterobacteriaceae producing blaSHV or blaTEM ESBLs were starting to emerge, consisting mostly of ESBL-producing K pneumoniae.51,53–55 In the mid to late 1990s, case reports and case series suggested that ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae had started to spread to outpatient settings as well.56–63
ESCMID guidelines for the management of the infection control measures to reduce transmission of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria in hospitalized patients
2014, Clinical Microbiology and InfectionCitation Excerpt :Although environmental cleaning interventions have been performed mainly to control outbreaks due to MDR-A. baumannii—albeit with controversial results—the literature also includes reports of outbreaks of coliforms, pseudomonads and Stenotrophomonas spp. traced to discrete pieces of equipment, environmental sites or possibly specific cleaning practice failures [151,161]. Identification and eradication of the reservoir appeared to terminate the various outbreaks caused by a wide range of MDR-GNB [170,174–181,189,213,214]. The interventions have been many and some involved the introduction or changing of a cleaning regimen or complete removal of one or more suspected items of equipment.
