2012, Clinics in PerinatologyCitation Excerpt :Dopamine, when appropriately titrated, has been shown to either increase35,36 or have no significant effect33,37 on cardiac output. Padbury and colleagues35 reported an increase in cardiac output and blood pressure in preterm and term infants after titration of dopamine up to 8 μg/kg/min. The increase in cardiac output is caused by the drug-induced increases in myocardial contractility demonstrated by increased ventricular ejection fraction, even in the 1-day-old very preterm neonate.38
