2018, Pediatric Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Recognizing pediatric septic shock requires an understanding of how presentation can differ from adult counterparts. Contrary to adults, low cardiac output (CO), as opposed to low systemic vascular resistance (SVR), is known to be associated with higher mortality in pediatric septic shock.17–28 Ceneviva and colleagues26 demonstrated that 58% of children in a cohort of fluid refractory shock patients had low CO and high SVR, whereas 22% had low CO and low SVR.
