Umbilical venous catheterisation (UVC) is a common procedure in preterm babies for delivering total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and medications. Its complications include infection, vascular injury, hepatic necrosis, thrombosis and portal hypertension.1 A 29-week preterm male infant had an UVC in place to give parenteral nutrition.
