A term newborn presented with a red-violaceous mass on the left hand encompassing the thenar eminence (figure 1). Ultrasonography showed a solid, slightly vascularised lesion involving the first metacarpal. MRI showed a solid, hypovascular mass with an area of necrosis infiltrating and involving the first metacarpal (figure 2A).
