2015, CytokineCitation Excerpt :This drug has the ability to increase phagocytosis of monocytes and neutrophils and can also increase generation of superoxide ions in neutrophils [39,40] leading to increased bacterial clearance [41], which is a beneficial side effect when dealing with infection or sepsis. Furthermore, Indomethacin has been shown to decrease the risk of severe intraventricular hemorrhage [42] and reduce white matter injury [43]. The aim of the present study was to determine the impact of Betamethasone, Indomethacin and a combination therapy with both drugs on the fetal and neonatal immune system, in case of imminent preterm birth associated with intrauterine infection.
