The bone marrow regulates the homeostatic release of mature neutrophils and the accelerated production of granulocytes in response to inflammatory signals (Terashima, English, Hogg, & van Eeden, 1998; Terashima, Wiggs, English, Hogg, & van Eeden, 1996).
