2017, Journal of Allergy and Clinical ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :Multiple anecdotal reports demonstrate benefit from the use of IVIG in autoimmune hemolytic anemia,176,179,180 but the use of IVIG should be considered only when other therapeutic modalities have failed.181 IVIG has been associated with a decreased need for exchange transfusions in neonates with isoimmune hemolytic anemia.182-184 However, there were flaws in these studies, such that routine use in neonatal hemolytic anemia is not currently recommended.185
Neonatal Indirect Hyperbilirubinemia and Kernicterus
2017, Avery's Diseases of the Newborn, Tenth EditionHyperbilirubinemia in Preterm Neonates
2016, Clinics in PerinatologyCitation Excerpt :Intravenous gamma immunoglobulin (IVIG) may be administered when the hyperbilirubinemia is attributed to isoimmunization. IVIG has been shown, anecdotally, to reduce the need for exchange transfusions in Rh and ABO hemolytic diseases.1,70,71 Although data are limited, there is no evidentiary basis for its use and there are concerns for significant side effects in preterm neonates.
