2014, CortexCitation Excerpt :Visual deficits in this group are often associated with ROP (O’Connor et al., 2002) or major focal lesions affecting cortical and sub-cortical regions (Cioni et al., 1996, 2000; Eken et al., 1996; Fazzi et al., 2004). However, preterm infants without apparent ocular or brain lesions have a higher incidence of abnormalities, both in linear acuity and stereopsis, than infants born at term (Jongmans et al., 1996) and the underlying cause of impaired visual function in these infants in not known. In this study, only 2 infants had ROP.
