    Recently, Job et al 1 reported on the ‘Incidence and identification of inadvertent lumbar vein catheterisation in the NICU’. Because potentially serious, even fatal, complications can occur when percutaneously inserted central venous catheters (PCVCs) are inadvertently placed into the ascending lumbar veins (ALVs), the authors retrospectively analysed the incidence of ALV malposition of PCVCs in their institution.
