We thank Ahmed and colleagues for adding a substantial number of new cases of vitamin D deficiency to the literature.1 Despite earlier omissions, the 2008 version of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence antenatal guideline2 suggests that all women should be informed at the booking appointment about the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin D stores during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period.
