Empirical antibiotics for suspected early neonatal sepsis

In responding to the article by Muller-Pebody and colleagues,1 Michael Hall and colleagues2 report that they use empiric cefotaxime monotherapy for suspected neonatal sepsis, contrary to the UK national guidelines, because they are concerned about aminoglycoside toxicity. They also state wrongly that the authors do not distinguish early- from late-onset sepsis.
