It was interesting to note that renal anomalies were not as common in babies born with single umbilical artery than controls. In my experience of 22 babies with SUA over last 10 years, 20 babies were term with normal birth weight. In all these 22 babies, there were no significant renal anomalies on follow-up ultrasound. Three babies were clinically Trisomy syndrome (only one baby was confirmed as Down's Syndrome by Karyotyping).Sixteen out of 22 babies were females, which may be purely coincidental. |
